My husband and I are living in a home that needs the carpet replaced pretty badly in the living room. We are looking into laminate flooring and may be in the house another 7 years or so. My question is, if we are planning on trying to sell in about 7 years, will laminate flooring be in decent shape or should we wait until we get a little closer? I know this depends on our use of it. We currently have a puppy and will have kids at some point. Thanks!

Although there is a "give and take" with each flooring and budget, there are flooring options that will add value to your home. The right laminate in the right place will perform. Laminate flooring is one of the most economic and resilient floorings available. For your needs, laminate should last over 7 years with normal use. The wear layers on laminate are extremely strong and resistant. The only real problem to laminate is long-standing water. If a pipe burst or if your puppy had an accident on laminate and it sat for 8 hours or more, manufacturers cannot guarantee there won't be damage. Almost all laminates are sealed at the tongue and groove, above and below. However, long standing liquids can sometimes work their way past these protective barriers.

The Floor NetworkI've been in the flooring business since I was a teenager and became my Dad's apprentice. Many things have changed since...new products, new techniques, "green" products that don't produce fumes that make you sick, but the bottom line is everyone starts with a solid floor or wall and then, with some thought and planning, it becomes the foundation for the design style of your home!
