Luxury Vinyl Plank and Tile
We have an extensive selection of Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) in our showroom.

These terms came about to describe a vinyl tile or plank floor as one that mimics the look of wood or stone including marble, travertine, and slate. Technological advances have steadily developed these looks to the point where it now can be very difficult to tell if you are walking on a luxury vinyl plank floor or not.

In the early days of sheet vinyl, it was often used only in bathrooms, laundry rooms or entryways. As the production technology has advanced and it's being promoted more as a plank product, we see LVP used throughout entire homes.

To help you determine if LVP is a good fit for your project, we've gathered a few pros and cons of Luxury Vinyl Plank and Tile:

Pros...

  • LVP is known for water and dirt resistance, but also for its resilience and long-lasting durability. Just about any vinyl floor will last  15-25 years in a residential space. That means no sanding, refinishing, or replacing your floors for a lengthy stretch of time.
  • Vinyl has come a long, long way since the turn of the century. With the latest levels of printing and photographic technology, vinyl now has the make-up to resemble and feel like real wood or stone.
  • Vinyl is also known for being easy to maintain and clean.  All it takes is regular sweeping and occasional mopping. The only thing that was really holding this flooring back from being used more was its look.
  • One of the perks of these floors is that it has a slightly softer surface than that of wood and tile floors. That softer surface provides more flexibility making it easier to stand on for long periods of time (another advantage for kitchens).
  • LVP can be installed directly over just about any sub-floor including an existing linoleum or tile floor. It is also a great choice for sub-floors with cracks or those that move.
  • Luxury vinyl plank floors are cost-friendly when compared to real wood or real tile floors.

Cons...

  • It can become discolored due constant exposure to direct sunlight. So, it is not a great option for outdoor use. Certain rubber material, such as a rubber backing from a floor mat, can also cause vinyl to discolor.
  • Another disadvantage is that vinyl is not biodegradable, which is sometimes important to customers. With that said, while vinyl flooring is not biodegradable, it is 100% recyclable.
  • Finally, a con in recent years has been the impact of indoor air quality (IAQ) and emission of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's) in certain brands of luxury vinyl flooring. No matter who you buy from, always check with the manufacturer to see if their vinyl floors are FloorScore Certified and meet all emission standards.
